GETTING BY SEA

A Guarda, placed in a kind of small peninsula due to it is surrounded by water mainly the Miño river and the Atlantic Ocean. It is connected with Portugal by a ferryboat that crosses the Miño river; the sea lovers could use the fishing port to anchor its vessels.

The boats which want to anchor in the port need to check the information with the Pontevedra bureau (south zone) of the Portos de Galicia.

The ferryboat crosses the Miño river from O Pasaxe (A Guarda) to Caminha (Portugal).

The services depart on the dot from Caminha (Portugal) and at half from A Guarda. The first service is always from Caminha. The general timetables from A Guarda are:

  • Tue – Fri: from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm, last service at 8:15 pm.
  • Sat & Sun: from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, last service at 8:15 pm.
  • Staff Break: Mon and every day at 2:30 pm.

But, it is highly recommended to check the current schedules on the Council Website or to phone the Ferry Tickets Office within the business hours (from 10 am to 1 pm & from 3 pm to 8 pm).

In case of not using the ferryboat, the alternative is taking PO-552 signposted Goian (Tomiño), 10 kilometres and cross the Friendship Bridge to Vila Nova de Cerveira (Portugal) and then continue west until Caminha.
