GETTING BY SEA

A Guarda is placed in a kind of small peninsula due to it is surrounded by water mainly the Miño river and the Atlantic Ocean. It is connected with Portugal by ferry that crosses the Miño river and the sea lovers have the fishing port.

The boats which want to anchor in the port need to check the information with the Pontevedra bureau (south zone) of the Portos de Galicia.

The ferryboat crosses the Miño river from O Pasaxe (Camposancos, A Guarda) to Caminha (Portugal).

The services depart on the dot from Caminha and on half from A Guarda. The first service is always from Caminha and the timetables from A Guarda are:

  • Tue – Fri: from 10:30h to 19:30h, last service at 20:15h.
  • Sat & Sun: from 11:30h to 19:30h, last service at 20:15h.
  • Staff Break: Mon and 14:30h.
  • Summer Timetable (Jul & Aug)Mon – Sun: from 9:30h until 20:30h, last service at 21:15h. Sat & Sun: first service at 11:30h, with a break at 14:30h.

In case of not use the ferryboat, the alternative is take PO-552 signposted Goian (Tomiño), 10 kilometres and cross the Friendship Bridge to Vila Nova de Cerveira (Portugal) and then continue west until Caminha.
